SG’s 1st XI managed their first win of the season to brighten spirits on a damp and dreary day. The victory was built on a strong batting performance that revolved around Abdul’s innings of 94, but notable contributions from Neil, Faheem, Shaf, Tom and Adam pushed the score to a competitive 233 for 7 off the allotted 50 overs.

With runs to play with the SG’s bowling attack confidently set about defending the total. Early strikes for both Faheem and Callum (including SG’s old boy Jason Wills caught behind) and some tight bowling put SRK behind the rate, and despite a decent partnership between SRK’s 3 & 4, and also some late hitting from SRK skipper Joe Prior, only the rain looked like it could deny SG’s their victory.

Shaf, Abdul and Maruff strangled the batsmen in the middle overs with some solid spin bowling, but SG’s just failed to deny a bonus point when a run out opportunity was missed.
