SGCC Juniors based on Trinity Fields, Beechcroft Road, has opened it’s registration for age groups from Year 1 upwards and we welcome both male and female juniors (mixed age groups.)
Coaching: We offer an excellent coach-to-junior ratio with a strong emphasis on both participation and performance. Our philosophy is based upon sustainable growth of our numbers whilst not reducing the cricket development experience.
Facilities: Juniors have exclusive access to two cricket fields at Trinity Fields as well as training facilities mid-week and on the Sundays. We use Ernest Bevin College Sports hall for our winter nets.
We will be starting our main sessions on Sunday mornings starting Sunday April 28th providing training for years 1 and upwards, sessions continue until the end of the summer term.
Provisional Schedule:
These sessions will be confirmed in advance of the season
09.10: Years 1,2 and 3
10.10: Years 4, 5 and open age softball group
Years 5 and above that play hardball will be members of the U10 (that has two teams) and U12 squads that play in the league. There will be additional evening training sessions on a Monday for these squads by invitation.
Note that due to the limited hardball practice facilities the focus for practice on Sundays will be on softball cricket, which is perfect for both younger age groups, but also for older juniors that are still finding their way in the game. The open age softball group is perfect for those taking up cricket for the first time
Useful information
· Sessions are ‘co-ed’ and will be an hour and taken by a qualified coach with assistance from parents to catch and throw balls
· We have spots to play in an U8 and U9 league for the younger age groups which will be arranged once the juniors are match-ready
· All juniors must be registered and paid for the session before the Sunday
· There is a registration fee and a per-session fee, however the registration fee is only payable at the second session (so effectively a trial session before joining)
· We will use an app called ‘Spond’ to register, manage and receive payments. Details will follow.
· We do have some age groups that fill quickly, but the main constraint on numbers is parent participation. A coach can run a successful large group with some assistants.
· The entrance to the ground is on Beechcroft road near the junction with Burntwood Lane. There is a clubhouse with teas/coffee/pastries served.
Our approach is based on performance and participation. We aim to run drop-in coaching sessions based on participation for all ages, as well as sessions with a fixed register to promote technical development.

Juniors will be given training on the 3 vital elements of the game – Batting, bowling and fielding – in a fun, inclusive and competitive environment. Juniors will have dedicated use of the entire ground and training facilities as well as access to grass pitches for competitive fixtures.
Our coaches are ECB qualified and aim to achieve the following:
- Offer a high degree of child participation regardless of ability
- Introduce basic technique and understanding
- Promote the spirit of cricket
The club will provide all the cricket equipment required for our sessions, however you are welcome to bring your own, please be aware of the following:
- Appropriate footwear is required (trainers or cricket boots).
- In compliance with ECB directives with a hard cricket ball, a box (abdominal protector) should be worn when batting or wicket-keeping. For hygiene reasons we recommend that each child should use their own box and wear appropriate underwear to ensure it is worn correctly.
