development, and performance. Our philosophy focuses on sustainable growth while
maintaining a high-quality cricket experience for every player

Sports Hall.

Junior Cricket Programme 2026

We will begin our main Sunday morning sessions from Sunday 4th May 2026, providing
coaching and training for children from Year 1 upwards. Sessions will continue throughout
the summer term.

Provisional Schedule

Session times will be confirmed prior to the start of the season.

09:10 AM – Years 1, 2 & 3
10:10 AM – Years 4, 5 & Open Age Softball Group

Children in Year 5 and above who play hardball cricket will become part of our U10 (two
teams) and U12 league squads. Additional invitation-only evening training sessions for these
squads will take place on Mondays.

Due to limited hardball practice facilities, Sunday sessions will primarily focus on softball
cricket. This format is ideal for younger players as well as older juniors who are still
developing confidence and skills in the game. Our Open Age Softball Group is also perfect
for beginners taking up cricket for the first time.

Useful Information

  • Sessions are co-educational and run for approximately one hour.
  • Training is delivered by qualified coaches with support from parent volunteers
assisting with catching and throwing activities.
  • We aim to enter teams into the U8 and U9 leagues once younger players are matchready.
  • All juniors must be registered and payment completed before attending Sunday
    sessions.
  • A registration fee and per-session fee apply. The registration fee is payable from the
second session onwards, allowing the first session to act as a trial
  • We use the Spond app for registrations, session management, and payments. Further
details will be shared after registration
  • Some age groups fill quickly. Parent participation greatly helps us expand capacity
    and maintain high-quality coaching.
  • The entrance to the ground is on Beechcroft Road, near the junction with Burntwood
    Lane.
  • Our clubhouse serves tea, coffee, and pastries during sessions

Our Coaching Philosophy

Our approach combines both participation and performance. We aim to provide inclusive
drop-in coaching sessions for all age groups, alongside structured squad training designed to
support technical development.

Juniors receive coaching in the three key areas of cricket:

  • Batting
  • Bowling
  • Fielding

Training takes place in a fun, inclusive, and competitive environment. Juniors benefit from
dedicated access to the ground, training facilities, and grass pitches for competitive fixtures.

Our Coaches

Our coaches are ECB-qualified and focus on:

  • Encouraging participation regardless of ability
  • Introducing strong fundamental techniques and game understanding
  • Promoting the spirit and values of cricket

Equipment & Safety

The club provides all cricket equipment required for training sessions. Players are also
welcome to bring their own equipment.

Please note:

  • Appropriate footwear is required (trainers or cricket boots)
  • In line with ECB guidelines, players using a hard cricket ball must wear a box
(abdominal protector) when batting or wicket-keeping.
  • For hygiene reasons, we recommend each child uses their own box and wears suitable
    underwear to ensure correct fitting.

We will be starting our main sessions on Sunday mornings starting Sunday May 4th providing training for years 1 and upwards, sessions continue until the end of the summer term.

Provisional Schedule:

These sessions will be confirmed in advance of the season

09.10: Years 1,2 and 3

10.10: Years 4, 5 and open age softball group

Years 5 and above that play hardball will be members of the U10 (that has two teams) and U12 squads that play in the league. There will be additional evening training sessions on a Monday for these squads by invitation.

Note that due to the limited hardball practice facilities the focus for practice on Sundays will be on softball cricket, which is perfect for both younger age groups, but also for older juniors that are still finding their way in the game. The open age softball group is perfect for those taking up cricket for the first time

Useful information

·        Sessions are ‘co-ed’ and will be an hour and taken by a qualified coach with assistance from parents to catch and throw balls

·        We have spots to play in an U8 and U9 league for the younger age groups which will be arranged once the juniors are match-ready

·        All juniors must be registered and paid for the session before the Sunday

·        There is a registration fee and a per-session fee, however the registration fee is only payable at the second session (so effectively a trial session before joining)

·        We will use an app called ‘Spond’ to register, manage and receive payments. Details will follow.

·        We do have some age groups that fill quickly, but the main constraint on numbers is parent participation. A coach can run a successful large group with some assistants.

·        The entrance to the ground is on Beechcroft road near the junction with Burntwood Lane. There is a clubhouse with teas/coffee/pastries served.

Our approach is based on performance and participation. We aim to run drop-in coaching sessions based on participation for all ages, as well as sessions with a fixed register to promote technical development.

Juniors will be given training on the 3 vital elements of the game – Batting, bowling and fielding – in a fun, inclusive and competitive environment. Juniors will have dedicated use of the entire ground and training facilities as well as access to grass pitches for competitive fixtures.

Our coaches are ECB qualified and aim to achieve the following:

  • Offer a high degree of child participation regardless of ability
  • Introduce basic technique and understanding
  • Promote the spirit of cricket

The club will provide all the cricket equipment required for our sessions, however you are welcome to bring your own, please be aware of the following:

  • Appropriate footwear is required (trainers or cricket boots).
  • In compliance with ECB directives with a hard cricket ball, a box (abdominal protector) should be worn when batting or wicket-keeping. For hygiene reasons we recommend that each child should use their own box and wear appropriate underwear to ensure it is worn correctly.
